Tip of the Month: Salvage End-of-Life Products
Ways to breathe new life into old products
We all have products in our makeup bags that have seemingly met their demise.
Whether it’s a broken pan of eyeshadow that transfers powder literally everywhere, or an almost empty tube of lipstick that scrapes your lips as you apply, what can be done to salvage them?
Makeup products do have a lifespan, but sometimes, it is possible to breathe a little life into them before it’s time to say goodbye.
I’m all about making the most of the products you have, and saving $ is a major bonus.
1. Do you have an old powder product with a hard film on it? The film is a buildup of oils, and the buildup makes it difficult for you to pick up any pigment. Take a clean spoolie and scrape off the top layer to reveal a fresh layer underneath.
2. Do you have a dried out gel eyeliner? Drop in a little Make Up For Ever Aqua Seal to bring it back to life; the alcohol content reactivates the product. Immediately after use, make sure you close your eyeliner well to prevent it from drying out again.
3. Got a broken shadow? You could either put it in a new container and use it as a loose shadow, or saturate it with 70% rubbing alcohol in its original container and use a clean makeup spatula or butter knife to press it back into a pressed form. Then let it dry.
4. At the very bottom of your lipstick bullet and have a hard time getting any product on to your lips? No worries, use a lip brush to reach into the bullet for product.
5. Are the hairs on your makeup brush all bent out of shape? Wet the brush hairs and apply hair gel to form the hairs back into their original shape. When the gel dries, wash the brush again to remove the gel.
