Mistake-Proof Makeup

This Week: Quick Makeup Fixes & Mistake-Proof Products

My whole life I knew my passion lay with makeup and it was empowering to know what drove me. But, my parents who I know only want the best for me, didn’t feel it was a dependable field to go into. I can’t say they were wrong; it still doesn’t feel dependable on some days.

After spending years in the secure and stable world of corporate, I finally arrived to the realization that the deep regret I would feel not pursuing makeup would most certainly outweigh the safety of my current career path.

I’m so glad I took that leap of faith and didn’t let my fear of making a mistake sabotage my dreams. I’m glad that I have my corporate background to build my business upon; I believe that every moment has led me to where I am today.

I now find the idea of a mistake to be empowering, because it means I am forging ahead into this exciting territory and learning new things every day.  And I hope you feel the same way.

Makeup isn’t permanent and if you don’t love the way something looks or make a “mistake,” no need to get discouraged and take it all off. There are so many little quick fixes that I use on my clients day in, day out!

If you have:

  • eyeshadow fallout under your eye, or eyeliner that isn’t sitting exactly where you want it, put a tiny bit of eye cream on a Q-tip to remove it

  • too much blush on, stipple a tiny bit of your foundation on top to diffuse it

  • lipstick outside of where you want it, take a tiny brush and place concealer on top of those areas

  • too much foundation on and it looks cakey, you can either take a damp Beauty Blender to meld it into the skin better, spritz with a radiance boosting finishing spray over top like MAC Fix+, or, my personal favorite, tap on a very little amount of Sonia Roselli Beauty Water Elixir

  • foundation or concealer caking up in fine lines (smile lines, under eyes, etc.), tap those areas with your finger to remove excess product

  • a full face of makeup that you want off, my favorite makeup remover is Bioderma Micellar water

This super natural look was created with products I find to be extremely forgiving in that you don’t have to be super precise with application and it’s very hard to put too much on.

Here’s what I used:

Dior Face & Body Foundation, 2N: glides on like a smooth dream and is truly undetectable

Sephora Bright Future Gel-Serum Concealer, 09 Sable: smoothing, blurring concealer for under eyes, hyperpigmentation and blemishes (I LOVE this for brightening areas all over the face, too!)

Makeup by Mario Softsculpt Shaping Stick, Light Medium (bronzer): mimic where the sun would naturally hit by drawing backwards “3”’s on either side of your face on your forehead, temples, cheekbones, and jawline; use either your fingers or a brush to lightly tap into the skin. (For this look, I also used it to contour my eyes by applying it just above my crease.)

Ilia Multi-Stick, All of Me (blush, lip balm, eye shadow): apply to cheek, lids and lips, and use your fingers to gently tap into the skin

Lancome 24H Drama Liqui-Pencil, 02 French Chocolate (eyeliner): buttery soft formula makes it easy to draw on and to blend with either a brush (my preference) or your finger

Benefit Gimme Brow+ Tinted Volumizing Brow Gel, Neutral Deep Brown: easily fills in sparse areas to give the perfect shape, tint and density all in one swipe
