Introducing The Beauty Highlight!
This Week: Brush Cleaning & Skin Prep
In complete opposition to what culture, society and beauty marketers tell us, I firmly believe there are NO RULES when it comes to beauty. Do what makes you happy, what brings you joy and confidence. As a makeup artist for over a decade, I always tell my clients “who cares about the ‘rules’ of makeup - do what you makes you feel good!”
Based on that principle, The Beauty Highlight will be a weekly resource for you to learn about the beauty tips and tricks I’ve used to help models, actresses, singers, performers, and other VIP’s to feel confident in their own skin. It will include my favorite products and how I use them to achieve the looks that create confidence. It will include my thoughts on new product launches and happenings in the industry. But, it will always be in an effort to help you to feel like the best version of yourself.
Great skin health is the bedrock of great makeup, and one way to maintain skin health is to clean your makeup brushes on a regular (weekly) basis. Below is a video I’ve created to show you exactly how I clean my brushes (which I do in between each client). I grab the Dawn dish soap I already have in my kitchen (you don’t necessarily need to purchase a dedicated brush cleaner) and get to work.
Here’s a bride I had the privilege of beautifying recently. I absolutely loved working with her; she is beautiful both inside and out! My main goal was to even out her complexion while making her eyes the star of the show. Since we talked skin health with brush cleaning, let’s continue that conversation.
Before you start your makeup application, always prep. your. skin.
It is essential to keep acne-prone skin well-hydrated. Those with acne tend to want to dry out their skin in an effort to get rid of their blemishes faster. (I was certainly guilty of this when I had acne in my teens and early adulthood!) However, if you want the best canvas for flawless makeup, hydration is crucial. Makeup can conceal redness, but it is very difficult to conceal texture, and texture is exactly what dry skin creates.
I use the Sonia Roselli Beauty line of skincare products on every client - that’s how much I trust and love it. The products are extremely effective, yet super gentle on all skin types. The only difference is which products from the line I use on each client.
For this bride, I pressed Water Elixir into her skin, and then massaged Water Balm on top. (BONUS: Water Balm doubles as a makeup primer! I love a 2-in-1.) This prep made it much easier to deliver the flawless complexion she was looking for to feel her best on her big day!
Have you tried Sonia Roselli Beauty? Let me know if you have any questions about her products!
Please feel free to send any and all beauty and makeup-related questions my way and I’ll be sure to answer them in future editions of The Beauty Highlight! And as always, I’m available for in-person makeup services and personalized makeup lessons. Please feel free to reach out at [email protected]; I would love to work with you!
